PGY1, PGY2 (and Registrar) Training Positions

Both The Mater and Calvary offer a great, medium sized JMO community with PGY1, PGY2 and registrar positions. We believe the size of our training network is not so big that trainees become lost in the crowd, and not too small to deny a breadth of training opportunities. It’s just right!

PGY1 and PGY2 terms cover a variety of general and sub-specialty terms including emergency, cardiology, renal, intensive care, vascular medicine, rehabilitation, anaesthetics, palliative care, general surgery, bariatric surgery, urology, oncology and orthopaedic surgery.

Registrar training at both sides includes opportunities in critical care, orthopaedics, oncology and palliative care.

Clinical Research Guarantee – $2000 JMO Leadership Support Scholarships

We offer the opportunity for all residents to undertake a supervised clinical research project. These projects are small, focussed, high impact projects from our proven centres of clinical excellence.

To support these opportunities, The Mater Doctors Association and The Mater fund Excellence in Clinical Research Scholarships available to every PGY2 that chooses to undertake a project.

Previous JMOs have undertaken clinical research in melanoma, cardiac failure, artificial intelligence, radiology, respiratory, medical education and general medicine.

Clinical Research

We encourage a culture of excellence in clinical research among our JMOs. We offer pathways to publications in clinical research including the Riverina Medical and Surgical Symposium and the Mater Hospital networks with multiple research groups and institutions. JMOs in our programme have won multiple awards, including internationally, for their research projects.
